How do we get the message across to all visitors about how to respectfully enjoy the island? You asked, and we are going to deliver!
The UCCA has been working with all island organizations to create signs at beach access points and ferry stops to educate our visitors. The project encompasses placing 8 informational signs in high traffic strategic locations to educate the public on safety, laws and community standards. You too can help with this project by sponsoring the signs with your family or business name and/or logo or just giving a small donation toward the project.
Simply click here and follow the simple steps to support this worthy project to help communicate helpful community standards for our visitors.
The informative beach signs will be offering larger signs at Sunset Beach, Nature Preserve, Island Girl Charter Ferry on Bokeelia, Island Club North Captiva St James area, Dolphin Beach, and Airport Beach that will have information regarding noting No Golf Carts on Beach, No Fires on Beach, Sea Turtle Foundation Information, Sea Bird Information, All Dogs on Leashes, Wildlife Information, Riptide Info, and Airstrip Information.
Each sign will have a map showing the current location are along with the information above related to that specific area. We will also have smaller signs at the end of Oro Pesos, Hodgepodge, Hidden Lane, and Escondido that will have No Public Parking , Sea Turtle Information , No Golf Carts on Beach, No Fires on Beach, and All Dogs on Leash Information on them.
We will also intend to place 2 pilings with rope across to help stop golf carts from entering onto the beach at these locations along with these posts at the Airport Beach to help deter golf carts on the beach and parking on these streets.
