The Lee County Electric Cooperative (LCEC) is undertaking a massive project to upgrade and replace all electrical lines and transformers on the island. The project will commence in the coming weeks and will first cover the southernmost streets of Panama Shell, Butterfly Shell, Oyster Shell, and Conch Shell. The project will entail the removal of old lines and the installation of new ones in various areas. All transformer boxes on the island will also be replaced.
To inform property owners about the project and how to stay informed about planned power outages during the project, the Upper Captiva Civic Association (UCCA) held a Town Hall in 2022 with LCEC. The Town Hall offers a wealth of information about the project and emphasizes the importance of ensuring that LCEC has your correct contact information. By doing so, property owners will receive advanced notification of planned power outages during the project. If you missed the Town Hall, you can watch it at on YouTube by clicking here, or you may view the recording along with a topical index of key topics by going to the UCCA Town Hall page and scrolling about half way down the page.
In summary, the LCEC’s electrical upgrade project is a crucial initiative that will bring substantial benefits to the island. While it will involve some temporary power outages, property owners can stay informed by providing their up-to-date contact information to LCEC and by watching the UCCA’s informative Town Hall. We look forward to the successful completion of this project, which will enhance the island’s electrical infrastructure for years to come.
