As of December 13, 2021 Safe Harbor Marinas has withdrawn their application on rezoning and no longer seek to build their original vision of ten treehouse bungalows. However, after speaking with Safe Harbor’s Chief Development Officer, Peter Clark, Swin reports Safe Harbor does still fully intend to develop their parcel under current zoning of C-1. There are many potential uses a C-1 zoning affords them which may or may not align with the character of the island. UCCA will continue to monitor new commercial permits with Lee County to report back once development does begin.
